The Philadelphia 76ers were supposed to be one of the most improved teams in the NBA this year following a first-round exit to the New York Knicks last year. They made a series of lauded moves in the offseason that should have had them as one of the league’s best teams from the get-go.
But, the beginning of the season has been an unmitigated disaster for the 76ers. After yet another loss on Wednesday, ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins claims that the Philadelphia 76ers are “cooked”.
The Sixers entered Wednesday’s game against a shorthanded Memphis Grizzlies squad at 2-11. Earlier this week, young star guard Tyrese Maxey called out superstar Joel Embiid in a team meeting. The details of the meeting were leaked, causing a considerable amount of embarrassment for the oft-injured Embiid. Maxey accused Embiid of being lazy and being late to team meetings. That’s something you don’t want to hear about the franchise player.
The 76ers haven’t played well, but the biggest issue has been health. Embiid missed plenty of time at the beginning of the year due to a lingering leg injury. Maxey has missed time, and newly-acquired Paul George hyperextended his knee early in the season. That means that the team’s big 3 hadn’t shared the court together until Wednesday.
But, it didn’t last long. Paul George hyperextended his knee once again, and the team struggled to a 117-111 loss to a Grizzlies team missing a ton of guys including Ja Morant.
At 2-12, things are bleak. Just how bleak? Let’s ask Kendrick Perkins.

It’s only 14 games into the season, but Philadelphia 76ers may be cooked.
