Kennesaw State is no longer the worst team in college football after picking up a transitive property win over Georgia on Wednesday night. The Owls stormed the field not once, but twice to celebrate a win over undefeated Liberty!
Although the dual celebrations did not happen on purpose, both field storms were well-deserved for a program that had never won a game on the FBS level.
Kennesaw State, located about 25 miles north of Atlanta, debuted a football team in 2015 as a member of the Big South Conference. It was a dominant seven-year stretch with at least 10 wins in four seasons with three conference championships. The Owls also won five games in the ASUN in 2022 and then just three games as an FCS independent in 2023.
They made the transition to the highest level of college football this season. Their move to Conference USA became official in July.
Kennesaw State lost six-straight games to begin its first year of FBS competition. It hosted Liberty as 25.5-point underdogs on Wednesday night and ultimately proved victorious. The Owls’ win marked the first time in 23 years that a team 0-5 or worse defeated a team 5-0 or better.
Fans poured onto the field as soon as the clock hit zero.

However, upon further review, there was one second left on the clock for the Flames. Everybody on both sides was forced to evacuate the field so the result could become official with one final play. Fans went back into the stands.

Liberty could not convert on the proceeding Hail Mary and the fans stormed right back onto the field for a second time. It was a party at the 50-yard-line!

A special shoutout goes to the Banana Boys. They have not missed a game — home or away — all season. They witnessed their team lose six in a row and their support never wavered.
All of the heartbreak was finally worth it on Wednesday.

With the win, the Owls have transitive property wins over a trio of ranked SEC schools. Kennesaw beat Liberty, which beat East Carolina, which beat Old Dominion, which beat Georgia State, which beat Vanderbilt, which beat Alabama, which beat Georgia. The “1” in “1-6” is bigger than it seems!
