Arkansas fifth-year senior Nick Pringle lost his cool during the closing moments of a college basketball game against Winthrop, which caused a brief altercation. Associate head coach Kenny Payne allowed everyone else around him to handle the deescalation.

He did not move a muscle.

The No. 21-ranked team in college basketball narrowly escaped an upset loss to the unranked Eagles. It was saved by a double technical foul.

Nick Pringle and Logan Duncomb caused a college basketball scuffle between Arkansas and Winthrop.

This specific incident took place with 12 seconds left in the second half. The Razorbacks had just scored a layup to take a one-point lead.

Winthrop center Logan Duncomb grabbed the ball as it fell through the net. Whether intentional or not, he proceeded to place the ball on top of Pringle’s head. He wrapped his arms around the neck.

That is when Pringle lost his cool and took Duncomb to the ground. A scuffle ensued. Players and coaches from both teams converged onto the scene to break things up and did a pretty good job of doing so with help from the officials.

Pringle and Duncomb both received a technical foul, which was a very big piece of the equation. Arkansas would’ve received two shots and the ball with a chance to put the game away if only Duncomb got called for a technical. Winthrop would’ve received two shots and the ball to flip the score if only Pringle got called for a technical. Technical fouls on both players offset.

The home team ultimately held on to win 84-83.

Kenny Payne did not even try to help.

Payne joined the Razorbacks staff in 2024 after a failed two-year stint as the head coach at his alma mater. The 58-year-old currently serves as the associate head coach to John Calipari.

He obviously sits on the bench during games.

The incident involving Nick Pringle and Logan Duncomb occurred right in front of Arkansas’ bench. Every single other coach on the bench got up from their seat to help with the deescalation process or to keep the players on the bench on the bench.

Not Kenny Payne! He did not get up from his seat until the two teams were already separated.

Thanks for the help, coach!
