The Kentucky baseball team is being mercilessly trolled on social media by rival fans due to a recent post about the squad’s success. That message, which is still pinned to the top of the team’s X account, dubbed UK the 2024 SEC champs.

The Wildcats landed a share of the SEC regular season crown after kicking off its final conference series, but poor play in their last game would lead to a third place seeding in the upcoming league tournament.

Kentucky had one of its best seasons in program history on the diamond, winning 39 games and posting a 22-8 SEC mark. Entering the weekend, the ‘Cats sat at 20-7 in league play.

That was a game up on second-place Tennessee.

After winning Games 1 and 2 over Vanderbilt, they landed a share of the league crown, meaning a victory in the regular season finale would effectively make them SEC champions. The team’s social media team quickly celebrated the accomplishment online.

Unfortunately, a loss in Game 3 combined with Tennessee’s sweep of South Carolina led to a two-way tie atop the standings.

Making matters worse, the Vols landed the top seed in the SEC Tournament due to head-to-head result. UT beat the Wildcats in two of three games in Lexington earlier in the year to earn the tiebreaker!

Fans quickly let the ‘Cats know in the comments section.

“This seems to be aging well.”

“Y’all’s best team ever and you still can’t finish in first.”

“There’s still time to delete this!”

“Talk about premature.”

“Congrats on the 3-seed…”

Tennessee earned the one-seed due to the tiebreaker, and Arkansas came in at No. 2 after winning the SEC West. That slotted the Wildcats at No. 3.

While the season is certainly something to be celebrated, maybe waiting to see if the team was outright champion would’ve been the better option for the post!
