Team USA Basketball nearly suffered one of the most embarrassing defeats in their history on Thursday. They needed a 17-point advantage in the fourth quarter to come back and beat Serbia, 95-91, in the 2024 Summer Olympics Men’s Basketball Semifinal in Paris.

It was an incredible comeback, and American have a lot to be proud of when it comes to the way Team USA fought in that fourth quarter after being down and out. Maybe that’s part of why Kevin Durant’s comments after the game on patriotism have gone so viral on Twitter.

Durant, who is Team USA Basketball’s all-time Olympic scoring leader, didn’t have a sensational game by his standards. He had just 9 points on 4-8 shooting. But, he had big baskets in the fourth quarter, including a clutch jumper that put the USA up by 4 with :34 remaining.

After the game, he was asked about feelings of patriotism while playing for Team USA. He had this to say.

“A lot of bulls*** happens in our country. But a lot of great things happen, too,” Durant said.
The comment took off on Twitter, and has been viewed well over 3 million times in under three hours.  Durant usually keeps his comments to basketball, so this is pretty newsworthy.
As we head into election season this fall, I’m sure this quote will be brought up on social media constantly.
