Kewan Lacy is the biggest star in college football who did not get the recognition he deserves during the regular season in large part because of how the Lane Kiffin drama overshadowed the players at Ole Miss. He could soon choose to enter the transfer portal for the second time in two years.
A suspicious video leak has raised questions about his future but the video might not be real.
Multiple college football insiders on the Ole Miss beat since have come out to say the leaked video is legitimate. I still have my doubts. The video itself might be real but I don’t know about the actual content. Either way, the increasing role of artificial intelligence in our society presents a concerning reality.
Did Lane Kiffin get leaked?
The original video, which has been viewed more than 500,000 times on social media as of this writing, was first posted at 10:45 p.m. on Wednesday night by an account on X with the handle @Drunkzookeeper8. The account, which claims to be based out of Mississippi, has only 12 followers. It appears to be run by a student at Ole Miss.
The video, recorded by a cellphone camera, shows a separate iPhone sitting on a the center console of an undisclosed SUV. The screen is open to a phone call on speakerphone with the time stamp of 9:27.
I am only going to post the audio to protect the individual whose name is listed.

The name is of a student at Oxford High School. He is close to the Kiffin family. Lane, Layla, Knox, Presley and Landry all follow him on Instagram. However, the name of the person on the phone call is written as: “John ❄️ Smith 🔥” with two emojis, which raised my first red flag that this might be fake.
Who, over the age of 13, puts their friend’s contact in their phone that way?
The center console also does not appear to match one of Kiffin’s cars. What is that logo on the armrest console?

Plus, wouldn’t Knox be in school in Oxford while his dad is in Baton Rouge? Why would Lane call his son’s friend to discuss this kind of thing? Who would be dumb enough to record it and leak it? Hm…
Artificial intelligence creates a concerning reality for college football and society.
My ears perked up when I first listened to this alleged conversation. I immediately wrote it off as artificial intelligence and moved on. I only circled back after the message boards lit on fire.
Neal McCready of Rebels247 said the video is “not fake” and Ben Garrett of the Ole Miss Spirit said “it’s real.” They are perhaps the most prominent media voices in Oxford so I was surprised to see this confirmation. I do not know how they both know it is not fake. They did not say.
One of my good friends made a great point. McCready specifically asked Rebels fans to “tread lightly” with the Oxford High School student because he is a good kid who did not know he was being recorded. Maybe the student confirmed to his parents that the video is real and this was damage control. Maybe.
I really don’t know. I could be wrong but I am still convinced this is an elaborate Burnerverse prank.
McCready and Garrett are great people and great reporters but they are both older millennials. They might’ve gotten got.
The voice of “Lane Kiffin” does sound a lot like Lane Kiffin in cadence but there is a weird echo. Almost as if the voice was played over the car speakers. The weird voice glitch at the 35-second-mark could be the real Lane Kiffin slurring his sentence. It could also be a computer glitch.

Listen closely to the “It was horrible.” Suspicious, no?
The fact that we are even having this conversation speaks to the dangers of A.I. It is only going to get harder to tell what is real. My brain is already trained to first question whether something is real as soon as I view it. Everything is fake until proven otherwise. That’s sad.
Is Kewan Lacy going to transfer?
Two things can be true at once here. This leaked video that Garrett and McCready say is real can be fake and Kewan Lacy might still transfer.
It would be dumb for Kiffin and company not to recruit the best running back in Ole Miss history to LSU. Other schools are going to do the same. I be surprised if Lacy has not already received interest from coaches all over the country. Tampering happens everywhere with everyone even though it is technically against the rules.
The Rebels are going to present Lacy with a large financial offer during the offseason with hopes that he will stay put. They will also remind him that the Grove Collective has not missed a payment since his arrival. LSU and other national title contenders are going to try to beat Ole Miss’ number.
Another factor in Lacy’s decision is his relationship with Kevin Smith Jr.
Smith, one of the greatest running backs in college football history, has coached with Lane Kiffin for seven years. He spent only one season on a non-Kiffin staff when he left Ole Miss for Miami in 2022, just to return to Ole Miss the next year. His son is close with Knox.
Smith did not get on the plane with Kiffin to Louisiana last week but the same job is likely available to him at LSU. His wife supposedly visited Baton Rouge to scout things out. Frank Wilson’s future remains up in the air because this position has not yet been filled. We’ll see.
Lacy might want to follow Smith if Smith leaves. Lacy might stay if Smith stays. There are a lot of unknowns. The singular focus right now is on the Playoff.
Kewan Lacy will decide on his future after the postseason. Same with Smith.
The alleged phone call does not make sense.
The context of the conversation between what I believe is an A.I. Lane Kiffin and (not) Knox’s friend at Oxford High School does not make sense unless it took place before Kiffin officially announced his decision to take the job at LSU. And even then, I don’t know why the head coach at Ole Miss would be having this conversation with one of his son’s friends.
The way Kiffin presented Smith and Lacy’s decision also sounds improbable. “He” makes it sound like Pete Golding was in on the shenanigans. That is either bizarre, untrue or both. Maybe it is actually the real Lane Kiffin on the phone and the real Lane Kiffin is lying.
I don’t think so. I am pretty sure this is an A.I. litmus test that a lot of people failed.
It seems to me like a student at the University of Mississippi and his friends set out to create this exact reaction. I am fairly confident these students scripted an A.I.-generated conversation with Lane Kiffin to play over their truck speakers. They had a separate group of friends on the other end of the phone call with scripted answers and reactions to what “Kiffin” said. It sounded pretty real. People bought it.
If that is the case, congrats, I guess? If not, and this video is real, then I am truly baffled.
Either way, the fact that we even have to have this debate creates a scary reality for the future of artificial intelligence. We’re cooked.
