Last week, the football world suffered a tragic loss when Minnesota Vikings defensive back Khyree Jackson, former Penn State and Florida State defensive back AJ Lytton, and and former Maryland and Charlotte defensive back Isaiah Hazel died in a tragic car crash in suburban Washington D.C, just across the border into Maryland.

The three lives were taken far too soon, and and the entire football world mourned their passing. Sadly, a memorial service planned for the three DMV natives on Friday turned dark when shots were fired at the site of the memorial late Friday evening.

Reports from police scanners of shots being fired at the memorial at Wise High School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland started leaking out on social media shortly after the incident happened. Fox 5’s Shomari Stone has the most detailed report as of just after midnight ET on Saturday.

“We’re in the parking lot. We’re coming out. We saw people lighting off fireworks, right? Things everything’s okay. Moments later, around within 20 to 30 minutes after that, shots ring out right here in this parking lot right here, in front of Wise High School. You can see police are here right now. This is an extensive, relatively large crime scene. Several shots were fired. People telling me, in a source close to the investigation says that one person was shot in the chest. Another person was shot in the leg. Now we’re also told that a woman was shot and a man was shot. Now one person is in critical condition. The other is stable,” Stone said.

There’s nothing good about this at all, as an indescribably sad situation just got a lot sadder. Let’s hope everyone ends up being okay and the perpetrators are brought to justice.

Khyree Jackson was a 4th-round pick out of Oregon in the 2024 NFL Draft.
