Kirk Herbstreit was adamant that Florida State did not deserve to be in the College Football Playoff in 2023/24 despite an undefeated regular season and a victory in the ACC championship. He was also one of the first pundits to suggest that the undefeated Seminoles should be left out after a season-ending injury to quarterback Jordan Travis.
The disgruntled fanbase made sure to let him know they still do not agree in Ireland on Saturday.
Florida State opened the 2024 college football season against Georgia Tech in Dublin. College Gameday was on site for its first show of the season. Herbstreit, of course, is on the desk.
Something like 20/30,000 Seminoles descended upon the Emerald Isle to support their team. And to boo the ESPN crew. More specifically, the former Ohio State quarterback. Anti-Herbstreit signs were out in force. One sign stated “RG3 >>> KIRK,” others featured very explicit, savage quips.
Herbstreit seemed to believe that Florida State did not deserve a spot in the Playoff even before the injury to Travis. He continued to double-down at every opportunity before the official selection was announced and directly responded to fans on social media with his opinion after the snub.
They do not like him. At all.
Michael Alford, FSU’s Director of Athletics, had a “great” conversation with Herbstreit earlier this week to try and clear the air. They each said their piece. They talked for almost 45 minutes.
Even if the university itself has settled some of its beef, the fans are still furious! That was abundantly clear as soon as Kirk Herbstreit sat down at the desk, even before the show began at 9:00 a.m. ET.

The boos started early.
It was so loud that you couldn’t even hear him speak from the crowd.
Herbstreit brought Alford out with him to try and make peace. It didn’t matter!
The boos were so loud that it was all you could hear behind him on the broadcast at home.
The broadcast got underway about 30 minutes later and the Seminoles’ fanbase was absolutely ruthless. They booed Herbstreit into oblivion as soon as he got his first solo opportunity to speak.
The heckling did not stop at any point during the show! Florida State hates Kirk Herbstreit.
