The Ohio State Buckeyes will compete for a national title this postseason after booking a ticket to the College Football Playoff. After going 10-2 in the regular season, the Buckeyes will host a game for the first round of the playoff.

Kirk Herbstreit suggested that hosting the opener could be detrimental to Ohio State’s championship ambitions. A toxic fanbase, he says, could be rooting against the home team!

His thinking circles around head coach Ryan Day, who lost his fourth straight contest to rival Michigan in the Buckeyes‘ season finale. Many called for Day’s removal following the surprising upset.

The loss kept Ohio State out of the Big Ten Championship game, preventing the team from playing for a first-round playoff bye. Making matters worse, the Buckeyes entered the game as a three-score favorite at home.

The heat on Ryan Day’s seat was immediately cranked up as fans become more frustrated by his inability to win big games. Kirk Herbstreit suggested that those frustrations could continue to be seen when Ohio State hosts Tennessee.

“I don’t know if it would have been better for Ohio State to go on the road to get away from their home crowd that’ll be booing after third down, not converting and their punter comes out. Booing Ryan Day.”

Herbstreit says that Ohio State fans will boo Ryan Day if things start going south in the College Football Playoff matchup the Vols. The home field advantage might work against the Buckeyes!

We’ll see if that’s the case soon enough with the schools battling it out in the Horseshoe on December 21st.
