Kirk Johnson is currently at the center of a serious horse racing controversy. Calls are mounting for the veteran jockey to be banned from the sport for life after his most recent ride at Fort Erie Race Track.
Did he lose on purpose?
There is no way to know exactly what went down without a full investigation. However, the evidence does not look good for someone who has been in the world of horse racing for quite some time.
Kirk Johnson knows what he is doing.
This man is not a rookie. This is not someone without any prior experience on a horse or in big races.
According to Equibase, Johnson made 7,782 starts during his career, which began in 2005. He claimed 993 first-place finishes, 910 second-place finishes and 1,010 third-place finishes. He made 87 starts so far this year.
The veteran jockey is based out of Canada. Johnson competes most at Fort Erie and Woodbine.
His most recent result was extremely suspicious.
Did he throw the horse race?
Johnson rode the horse ‘Princess O Denmark’ in the fourth start at Fort Erie Race Track in Ontario, Canada on Monday. The Maiden Claiming turf race yields a purse of $18,9000.
It was a blowout… until it wasn’t.
Kirk Johnson got out in front of the pack on Princess O Denmark. They had a huge lead coming on to the final straightaway by approximately 70 yards.
All Johnson had to do was finish. His victory was all-but guaranteed. The battle for second place was behind them.
And yet, Johnson never even asked Princess O Denmark to go. She pulled way back before the line to finish as the runner-up.
"A very perplexing race" at @Forterieracing

The announcer called it a “very perplexing race.” I would say so! Kirk Johnson is way too good at his job to lose a race in such a mind-boggling manner. Did he lose on purpose?
