Mavs Getting Cooked For Giving Klay Thompson $80M Deal After Video Of Him Looking Washed At Local Gym Emerges

Klay Thompson’s career with the Golden State Warriors came to an end earlier this summer as the future Hall of Fame shooting guard signed a 3-year, $80 million contract with the Dallas Mavericks in an effort to help the team get over the championship hump following their NBA Finals loss to the Boston Celtics.

Unfortunately for the Mavericks and their fans, however, that $80 million investment in the 34-year-old sharpshooter may not have been a wise one as a video has emerged of him looking mightily average while playing against amateurs at a local gym in California.

“Klay Thompson getting cooked at a Planet Fitness by Door Dash drivers,” said one viral response to the video.

“Klay Thompson post injuries makes me depressed bro… Mavs really gave this due $80M though,” said another.

“Klay Thompson is so washed Mavs are cooked, I’m crying,” another basketball fan said.

“The Lakers really caught a break by not signing Klay Thompson.. this is nasty work. I understand now Warriors,” posted a Lakers fan.

One NBA fan was a bit kinder in their assessment, saying “I hate this for Klay Thompson. He’s one of the best players to ever play the game. Everyone’s time eventually comes, but the fact that people are coming at him like this is ridiculous. Anyone could have a negative highlight tape in summer runs.”

Thompson was drafted out of Washington State University by the Golden State Warriors with the 11th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. In 11 seasons with the Warriors — he missed the entirety of the 19/20 and 20/21 seasons due to injury — Thompson won four NBA titles, was named to five All-Star games, and averaged 19.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. He is also considered to be one of the best 3-point shooters in the history of the NBA.

Heading into the 2024/25 season, the Boston Celtics are the betting favorites to repeat as NBA champions with odds of +300. Thompson, Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving and the rest of the Dallas Mavericks do find themselves as one of the top six betting favorites, though, with odds of about +1000, trailing the Celtics, Oklahoma City Thunder, Denver Nuggets, Philadelphia 76ers, and New York Knicks.
