Kyle Filipowski’s NBA Draft experience took a wild turn last week due to an off-the-court storyline brought about by family members. The Duke star’s brother and mother took aim at the big man’s much older girlfriend on social media, blasting her supposedly calculated intentions in the relationship.

Since, they’ve continued to double down on the narrative, and have now taken aim at the Blue Devils basketball program.

Filipowski was passed over in the first round despite landing an in-person invite to attend on draft night. Soon thereafter, questions about that slide were brought about.

Zach Lowe of ESPN reported that his girlfriend was a topic of discussion, leading to an immediate response from the Filipowski family.

Daniel Filipowski posted this message on X last Thursday:

I’m Kyle’s oldest brother… you all don’t a have a clue the extent of the story that has to do with his girlfriend. There’s a story that has been pushed under the table for nearly two years now.

His mom added to the story with further intel on the situation.

You are opening a two-year issue… and she is 28 with an endgame three years ago to have a diamond ring on her hand when Kyle left Duke. HE WAS STILL IN HS!”

They claim to have been cut off by Kyle Filipowski, a move made largely at the request of his girlfriend. As the story continues to gain attention, the family places blame on everyone that had knowledge of what they called “grooming.”

Kyle Filipowski’s brother blasts Duke basketball.

The Blue Devils have become the latest target with Daniel Filipowski now pointing the finger at the coaching staff. He sent off a series of posts on his X timeline Sunday afternoon.

A thread:

For someone that aspires to be a head coach for a D1 program and been coaching high school and AAU basketball for 9 years, I am very lucky and grateful for the lasting genuine relationships I have had with my players and their families. As a kid, I grew up…

Idolizing and wanting to be the next Coach K. The years of success of what he built at Duke, just to be torn down in two years. An absolute shame! To know what has changed, and only for the worse for the program. You all don’t realize how bad Duke is really missing Coach K…

For the staff to just turn around and hide from the problem when we asked for help from the very beginning. Duke students, we know you have the story when you were told to keep it quiet. Make no mistake, you have the power in your voices to continue to ignite this push further!

You have the ability help numerous families get through this serious problem. And to the future families of students and athletes who consider this school as the place for your child, maybe consider where their priorities lie. It’s NOT in your kids best interests!

-Daniel Filiposwki / X: @thedanielflip24

Daniel Filipowski insists that the staff had direct knowledge of what they deemed to be an inappropriate relationship, but coaches turned a blind eye during Kyle’s lone season in Durham.

Is there truth behind those accusations?

Filipowski hasn’t publicly responded to his family’s claims. Instead, he seems set on his NBA future. The 20-year-old was selected early in the second round by the Utah Jazz.

Duke has also been quiet on a response to Daniel Filipowski’s comments, which have only continued to make this story more bizarre.
