Kyle Filipowski’s Brother, Mom Reveal Strange Story Of His Much Older Girlfriend After NBA Draft Slide

Many expected Duke’s Kyle Filipowski to be a first-round pick in Wednesday’s NBA Draft. Unfortunately, he wouldn’t hear his name called on Night 1.

His brother and mother filled followers in on why that might be, citing a bizarre story about his much older girlfriend as the possible reason.

Whispers began to swirl Thursday morning on why Filipowski remained on the board after the first round came and went. Despite being invited to attend the event in person, he sat sadly while hearing others’ names called by Adam Silver.

Videos showed his disappointed reaction after the event, though his girlfriend was there to comfort him. The female in those clips has now become a topic of conversation.

ESPN’s Zach Lowe tried his best to identify the reason for Filipowski’s slip on his podcast Thursday. Here’s what he’s heard from around the NBA.

“I was shocked Kyle Filipowski, who was invited to the Green Room, is still sitting here waiting for his name to be called… There were question marks about the interviews, they said he was nervous. He didn’t make his shots at the pro day. What’s going on with his girlfriend? This is all nonsense.”

Lowe broke it down further near the latter part of that podcast.

“He has an older girlfriend. She’s like 25 or 26, and teams are like, ‘Oh, this is weird.'”

That caused some fans to do some digging on the big man’s relationship.

Kyle Filipowski’s girlfriend is much older than him, and she’s now been accused by family of grooming.

After hearing the girlfriend linked to his draft slide, Kyle Filipowski’s family provided further information. They’ve apparently been cut off by the future NBA player!

Daniel Filipowski, Kyle’s brother, sent off a series of messages accusing the woman of having bad intentions.

I’m Kyle’s oldest brother… you all don’t a have a clue the extent of the story that has to do with his girlfriend. There’s a story that has been pushed under the table for nearly two years now.

His mother, Becky, then hopped on to continue filling followers in on the bizarre situation.

You are opening a two-year issue… and she is 28 with an endgame three years ago to have a diamond ring on her hand when Kyle left Duke. HE WAS STILL IN HS!”

Daniel went on to say that the family has been cut off from Kyle due to that relationship, even referencing an alleged email sent regarding the woman in question.

She forced him to cut us off from his life almost two years ago. Sent us an email and everything. Basically the official “goodbye letter.”

The family has no way of contacting him other than through attempts on social media.

Other than messaging him on his IG account, I don’t know how to get in touch with him. But look up and read on Mormon grooming and brainwashing and you’ll find some introductory details in there to connect some of the dots into the story that is going on here.

Those are strong accusations, and they’ve resulted in one of the strangest NBA Draft stories you’ll ever hear.

As for Kyle Filipowski, he was selected 32nd overall by the Utah Jazz – which only adds another twist!
