Last season the New Orleans Pelicans didn’t trade Anthony Davis to the Lakers because they believed they were going to get a monster offer from the Boston Celtics in the offseason.
Danny Ainge has encouraged the Pelicans to wait until the offseason to negotiate with the Celtics. Boston remains determined to try and partner Anthony Davis with Kyrie Irving for long-term, but plans to pursue AD regardless of Irving's free agency plans, per sources. https://t.co/Ft8rfe9EBZ

Unfortunately, the Celtics season ended in disappointment and it seems like they’re not likely to trade their core players at the moment considering the fact that Kyrie Irving is likely to leave in free agency.

They’ll probably have to pivot away potentially from the Anthony Davis deal they wanted to do because of uncertainty in Kyrie Irving’s future with team.”

On top of the uncertainty of Kyrie Irving, Davis’ agent Rich Paul continues to try to scare off the Celtics by saying that AD will never re-sign with Boston.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski agrees with Rich Paul’s assessment and believes the Lakers are the leaders in the clubhouse to sign Anthony Davis because that’s where AD wants to go.

The Lakers (are the leaders in the clubhouse) Because they have the leverage of knowing that Anthony Davis wants to sign with them in free agency in 2020, and the rest of the league knows that, and that there is some risk in trading for Davis.”
