No one knows what’s going on with LeBron James, even Lakers head coach JJ Redick. On Wednesday, the Lakers announced that LeBron was taking a leave of absence to deal with “personal” matters away from the court.
‘LeBron is not with the team right now,’ Redick said after a Lakers practice . ‘He’s out for personal reasons, excused absence.’
LeBron went on to miss the Lakers game with the Timberwolves, a game they lost.
“Having a leader like that that’s not here is tough, but I know some of that stuff is out of our control,” Redick would later tell reporters. “It’s kind of like a next-man-up mentality, still, even in practice. The guys still competed really hard even though he wasn’t here. There was some good leadership, there was good vocalization for us as a team, good collaboration, so it was a good practice.”
On Saturday, Redick was asked about whether he knew when LeBron would be back, and he gave reporters a one-word answer.
Lakers coach JJ Redick was asked if he knew when LeBron would rejoin the team.
“No.”
Left it at that.
