Lane Kiffin was left to his own devices on Christmas Day. The new head coach at LSU returned from the grocery store with the basket still in hand.
He didn’t want to pay for a bag.
One of the highest-paid coaches in college football history refused to pay an addition $0.20-$0.30 so he took the basket home instead. It was astonishing.
The Kiffin family is in Los Angeles.
According to his eldest child, Landry, Lane does not go to the grocery store by himself. He is either accompanied by his ex-wife Layla or his children, or someone else handles all of the shopping.
The 50-year-old was left to his own devices on Christmas Day.
Kiffin and his family are currently in Los Angeles for the holidays while the Ole Miss staff prepares for the Sugar Bowl. More specifically, they are in Manhattan Beach.
Lane used to live in the South Bay when he coached at USC. His ex-wife, Layla, kept a place in Manhattan after they split. He used to fly out and visit as the family came back together in 2020 and 2021. Landry, Layla and Knox eventually moved south.
I don’t know if the Kiffin family kept their place out West or if they are renting for the holidays. Either way, Lane apparently flew out to Los Angeles for Christmas and apparently flew commercial.

The family needed him to pick up a few items for Christmas dinner upon arrival to California. They sent him out on his own for what Landry said was the first time.
Lane Kiffin went grocery shopping.
Most grocery stores in California already charge an additional fee for paper bags. Plastic bags are banned. The goal is for shoppers to bring their own reusable bags.
In fact, stores must charge a minimum of 10 cents per bag per new state law as of Jan. 1, 2026.
Lane Kiffin did not want to pay the bag fee even though he just signed a $91 million contract at LSU. It is not about money, it’s about principle.
He went to self checkout at the grocery store, saw the bag fee and declined. But that left him with a predicament. How was he going to get the grocery items home?
His solution was simple. Kiffin brought the physical basket home with him.
Based on his reaction to his family’s questions, he was legitimately confused. People (talking heads on television and insiders) often pretend to understand Kiffin. They don’t. This video is the perfect example.
To understand Lane Kiffin, you must first stop trying to understand Lane Kiffin.
