Last year, Lane Kiffin went into the transfer portal at Ole Miss and found a little-known quarterback out of Ferris State named Trinidad Chambliss.

All Chambliss went on to do, despite many people wondering where he came from, was to win the starting job and lead the Rebels to the College Football Playoff semifinals.

Now, Kiffin is in a similar position as the new head coach at LSU: needing to use the transfer portal to find his team a new starting QB. And after seemingly striking out on multiple big-name targets, he may have yet again found a gem out of the lower levels of college football.

LSU Lands Elon QB Landen Clark In The Transfer Portal

On Sunday, Elon’s Landen Clark committed to the Tigers over offers from Michigan, Kentucky, and James Madison, among others.

While landing a quarterback from an FCS program that went 6-6 in 2025 doesn’t exactly sound exciting on the surface, LSU fans may want to look a little deeper at Clark.

Clark completed 56 percent of his passes for 2,321 yards and 18 touchdowns with 8 interceptions, while adding 614 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground.

But beyond that, the redshirt freshman has an absolute howitzer of a right arm.

Yes, Chambliss joined the Rebels as a senior who had experienced far more success at the lower levels after winning a national championship with Ferris State. And yes, it’s entirely possible Clark ends up a backup if LSU lands another quarterback in the transfer portal with FBS experience.

But with three years left of eligibility, there’s absolutely something for Tigers fans to look forward to with Clark. He has the type of arm strength that can’t be taught. And if Kiffin can refine that talent, he could be quite the quarterback prospect in the years to come.
