Less than one week after leaving Ole Miss to become the new head coach at LSULane Kiffin lost a highly coveted offensive line recruit back to the Rebels on Friday morning.

Jalan Chapman, who held offers from just about every power program in the country (LSU, Alabama, Georgia, Oregon, and USC among them) flipped his commitment from the Tigers to Ole Miss after initially committing to LSU and Brian Kelly in July of 2024.

The New Orleans native decommitted from LSU on Tuesday, one day before the signing period opened.

At 6-foot-3.5 and 305 pounds, per 247, Chapman projects to either play guard or center for the Rebels. But it’s a huge get for new head coach Pete Golding, even as he works to fill out his long-term staff, which is currently supplemented for the playoffs by a number of assistants expected to follow Kiffin to LSU.

Notably, Chapman spurned Kiffin in his initial recruitment as well, sticking with the in-state Tigers. This led to questions as to whether Kiffin may have pulled his scholarship at LSU in an act of retaliation.

Him and Kervin (Johnson Jr.) got mad they were filtered and want revenge. Someone gotta tell em but I don’t have to heart to do it,” one fan posited on X.

“Ole Miss will throw a parade, but his scholarship was taken from him when the new staff got here,” said another.

Others point out that if Chapman didn’t want to play for Kiffin at Ole Miss, he likely didn’t want to do so at LSU, either.

Either way, it represents a strong addition for Ole Miss at a time when it’s trying to salvage its 2026 recruiting class.
