After weeks and weeks of speculation, the Lane Kiffin saga is finally over after the notoriously flaky head coach ditched the Ole Miss Rebels to become the new head coach at LSU.
Kiffin, as he’s wont to do, burned plenty of bridges on the way out the door, issuing threats to Ole Miss if it did not let him continue to coach the team through the College Football Playoffs.
Unsurprisingly, those threats weren’t met well by fans, who let Kiffin know all about their displeasure as he departed Oxford for Baton Rouge via private plane. But it also didn’t sit well with Ole Miss administrators.
Ole Miss Makes Hilariously Petty Moves After Losing Lane Kiffin
Within minutes of Kiffin officially leaving for LSU, the Rebels not only removed Kiffin’s verification checkmark on X, but they also removed the verification for Kiffin’s dog, Juice, who had become a star in the Ole Miss community and often accompanied Kiffin to games.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, Ole Miss took things one step further. The school moved all of Kiffin’s stuff out of the football facilities, including the suits that Kiffin wore to games and press conferences.

But Kiffin and LSU didn’t take the shots from Ole Miss without retaliating. Dan Wolken of Yahoo Sports noted that either Kiffin, a representative of his, or LSU seemingly created Twitter bots to defend him from criticism.
Several different accounts all tweeted the exact same thing in defense of Kiffin: “Before you guys send hate towards Lane Kiffin remember you aren’t just attacking a player but a father, a husband and a christian. Him leaving behind Ole Miss shouldn’t takeaway what he’s brought to the team, and we should be looking forward to celebrating his individual success.”
What’s done is done at this point. Kiffin is now public enemy No. 1 in Oxford, and the Rebels have already named a new head coach, promoting defensive coordinator Pete Golding. But it seems as if the hurt feelings on both sides will take a good bit of time to heal.
