When Lane Kiffin opted to leave Ole Miss high and dry for the theoretically greener pastures of LSU, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry played a significant role.
Landry was not only a driving force behind the Tigers’ decision to pursue Kiffin, but he was also integral in securing the funds for his jaw-dropping $91 million contract.
However, Landry did take exception to one key factor in Kiffin’s contract: his astonishingly high buyout, which exceeds that of his predecessor, Brian Kelly.
Despite that fact, Landry is all about the Lane Kiffin Express.
So when Missisippi Goveronor Tate Reeves took a shot at LSU on Friday, Landry was quick to fire back.
“Good news Gov… The #1 football team in Louisiana – and the only one to ever make the 12 team College Football Playoff – plays in Mississippi tomorrow afternoon!! You don’t have to wait until next year to visit Oxford – Hope to see you there @LAGovJeffLandry! #HottyToddy,” Reeves posted on X.
Landry didn’t take kindly to the invite.
“.@tatereeves, enjoy today with the team our coach built. See ya next year when you have to build your own,” he replied.
That’s when Kiffin decided it was time to step in and set both legislators straight.
Its not the hunger games guys. Let’s both cheer for each other all year long except when we play each other. ☮️ 🇹🇹@LSUfootball @OleMissFB https://t.co/ZKpCzRAqys pic.twitter.com/TvZqFrgFZn

“It’s not the hunger games guys. Let’s both cheer for each other all year long except when we play each other,” Kiffin posted.
Something tells us Landry and Reeves won’t be following those instructions. But it was still funny to see Kiffin, of all people, trying to help the two sides reconcile. Especially after he was the cause of discontent to begin with.
