Lane Kiffin arrived to Ole Miss in December of 2019 and quickly turned a college football program still reeling from NCAA sanctions into a legitimate national title contender. It took a lot of very long hours.

The 49-year-old head coach spends the vast majority of his time in his office on campus in Oxford, which affords him very few hours in the day to run errands and/or handle personal matters.

Kiffin is currently currently 10 games into his fifth season with the Rebels. His team is currently ranked No. 9 in the country after finishing at 11-2 with a Peach Bowl win last season.

Although Kiffin’s primary focus is on Saturday’s road game at Florida, college football coaches in the modern era are tasked with more than just the Xs and Os. The Early Signing Period is right around the corner. The transfer portal is going to open its winter window less than a week later.

Coaches are forced to pay just as much attention to the assembly of next year’s roster over the next few weeks as they are to their current teams. If we’re being honest, it is a completely broken system.

However, these same coaches are also getting paid millions of dollars to deal with the hand they are dealt. They don’t have a choice in the matter. They must adapt.

Lane Kiffin stays busy!

With all of these different happenings all coming together at the same time (in addition to the grind of the regular season), Kiffin spends most of his time at work. He is at the office from approximately 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. It is 16-hour days, seven days a week, for at least five months out of the year.

As a result, Kiffin estimates that he has not been to a store — any store — in approximately two years!

Don’t get it twisted. Kiffin often works hot yoga into his daily routine. There are instances in which he gets out to the Square for lunch. His daughter occasionally asks him to show up to a KKG function.

It’s not like Lane Kiffin spends every waking moment in his office or on the field. Just most of them! Especially right now, as the regular season collides with the transfer portal and Early Signing Day.

College football coaches are rarely home for more than a few hours of sleep at night during the fall. Getting to the store is not an option!
