Will LaNorris Sellers be the quarterback of the South Carolina football team in 2026? That is a question many Gamecocks are asking this offseason.

The passer has options after seeing a dip in production as a sophomore. He got cryptic on social media moments before some major coaching news was announced in Columbia.

Kendal Briles will be the program’s next offensive coordinator. Shane Beamer will land his top target, bringing the play caller over from TCU.

Briles has experience at notable stops, including one in the SEC. The coordinator has previously called plays at Baylor, Houston, Florida State, and Arkansas.

He’s consistently produced offensive success, of which the Gamecocks are in desperate need.

South Carolina ranked 15th in the SEC in total offense and 14th in scoring. Its quarterback saw a major dip in production.

Offensive coordinator Mike Shula was let go with three games left to play in the regular season. Briles will look to right the ship.

The first major step in achieving that goal will be keeping star players put. The quarterback will be priority No. 1.

Will LaNorris Sellers stay?

There has been much noise surrounding his future. Some believe he’ll transfer to a school with more stability on the offensive coaching staff and proven playmakers at the skill positions.

Others think he could test the NFL waters. Sellers was considered a first-round talent three months ago. A pro team might still hold him in high regard despite his 2025 struggles.

South Carolina is hopeful it can keep him in the fold. Making the right offensive coordinator hire was the start. Creating an environment that breeds success will be the next.

To this point, no major offensive playmakers have announced transfer decisions. That includes Sellers’ younger brother, Jayden.

The Gamecocks ponied up to keep its passer in Columbia last offseason when other suitors came calling. Can they succeed a second time around?

A cryptic post provided little intel.

LaNorris Sellers posted a series of photos from this past season on Instagram. There was no caption, only a song.

That song, “9” by Dean Blunt and Panda Bear, could be telling.

Got a ripple on my back
With and without you
And all the moments past
Are leaking out my mouth

Are all the gears all broken?
Are all the gears all broken?
All of the wheels have come off
And I can’t wait for what’s next

Sit and watch it burn
I once said, I once said
Now I spit up on the flame

A quick search into the song meaning pulls up the feeling of carrying emotional burdens both with and without someone (or something).

Chaos and uncertainty are clear themes, as are new beginnings.

Is Sellers referencing a clean slate with a new coach, or starting fresh at a different school? We should know more in the coming days.
