The South Carolina Gamecocks are looking ahead to life without Spencer Rattler. Over the last two seasons, there’s been little drama in the quarterback room with the former five-star prospect making all 25 starts.

Now, the keys to the offense will be passed down to a new player. On Tuesday, head coach Shane Beamer named redshirt freshman LaNorris Sellers his starter.

Sellers arrived on campus with much fanfare, being rated a four-star player in the class of 2023. A dual threat, he showed in limited action last year that he can beat defenses with both his arm and his legs.

Listed at 6-foot-3 and 242 pounds, he possesses the size and strength to run through defenders. He proved it in SEC play as a rookie!

He’ll soon put those talents to the test.

LaNorris Sellers will take the first snap of the season for South Carolina.

Sellers was expected to be named QB1 throughout the offseason, and on Tuesday, Shane Beamer made it official. He spoke to media members in Columbia about that decision after the fact.

The passer is undoubtedly excited to take the reins, but you might not know it by his reaction to the news.

Beamer said he sent Sellers a text message in the morning before going public with the move. His quarterback never responded! That forced the coach to tell him the news in person, prompting just a one-word reply.

Sellers’ response when told: “OK.”

Went back to the drill.

It seems he expected to get the nod over former Auburn starter Robby Ashford.

The Gamecocks now have their man under center following Spencer Rattler’s departure. We’ll see how he does in Week 1 against Old Dominion.
