Is LaNorris Sellers going to stay at South Carolina, enter the NFL Draft pool or transfer? That is one of the biggest questions surrounding college football over the next few months.
Oluwatosin Babalade seemed to hint at the one of the latter two options.
The Gamecocks offensive lineman posted a cryptic photo on social media that creates even more confusion about his starting quarterback’s future. He could also be talking about one of his other college football teammates, Trovon Baugh. (Or it could be much ado about nothing.)
Is LaNorris Sellers going to stay at South Carolina?
Sellers, a former three-star recruit, spent his freshman season as the backup to Spencer Rattler in 2023. He was named as the starting quarterback as a sophomore and led South Carolina to an 8-4 record in 2024.
The 6-foot-3, 240-pound dual-threat signal-caller completed 65% of his passes for 2,520 yards and 18 touchdowns with seven interceptions and ran for 674 yards and seven touchdowns.
There was a lot of hype about the Gamecocks during the preseason. They were ranked as high as No. 13. Sellers was considered a Heisman Trophy frontrunner.
South Carolina went 4-8. Its quarterback did not live up to expectations and saw a statistical decline in every major category.
However, the offense was forced to play musical chairs due to injuries and lack of depth.
Sellers had evade defenders before he was able to make his reads. He never got comfortable. He relied on his athleticism instead of his mechanics. His accuracy took a big hit.
It is now a question of whether LaNorris Sellers is going to stay in Columbia for a fourth and final season of college football, declare for the NFL Draft or transfer. Shane Beamer already made his case.
“I don’t want to rush them, but certainly I’ve told those guys and I’ve told their families, the quicker they make a decision the better it is for all of us in regards to hiring offensive coaches,” he said. “They want to know, is Nyckoles Harbor and LaNorris Sellers, am I going to be coaching them if they come to South Carolina? So the quicker I can tell them yes, the better it is for all of us, this entire program.”
We’ll see. They must decide to transfer by Jan 16. They must declare for the NFL by Jan. 6.
Oluwatosin Babalade dropped a cryptic hint.
Oluwatosin Babalade prefers to go by Tree. He is a redshirt sophomore at South Carolina who spent his entire career with Sellers and started every game for the Gamecocks this season when healthy.
The 6-foot-5, 330-pound offensive lineman made the following post on X:
Nobody knows what it means.
The image on the left shows Babalade and Trovon Baugh blocking for Sellers. The image on the right shows Ugandan journalist Simon Kaggwa Njala. He is perhaps most famous for his interview of human rights Pepe Julian Onziema. His opening question has become a meme on the internet.
Is Babalade asking the same question of Sellers and/or Baugh?! Does his post imply an exit?!
Maybe it means nothing. Maybe it means either or both players are leaving South Carolina. Or maybe it’s an inside joke that we don’t understand. Only Babalade knows the truth but the image + caption combination does not seem to be positive.
