LaNorris Sellers is one of the biggest dominoes that will fall during the upcoming transfer portal cycle and a recent ski trip raises questions about his future at South Carolina. He has two years of college football eligibility remaining but he is also eligible for the NFL Draft.
His options are to stay with the Gamecocks, transfer, or go pro.
It seems most likely that Sellers will choose to play at least one more season of college football but where? And what will happen if he suddenly projects or a first- or second-round draft pick next April?
South Carolina hopes to retain LaNorris Sellers.
Sellers, a former three-star recruit, spent his freshman season as the backup to Spencer Rattler in 2023. The 6-foot-3, 240-pound dual-threat signal-caller was named as the starting quarterback last season and led South Carolina to an 8-4 record. He completed 65% of his passes for 2,520 yards and 18 touchdowns with seven interceptions and ran for 674 yards and seven touchdowns.
It was a huge year for the true sophomore, which led the Gamecocks to be ranked as high as No. 13 in the preseason rankings for 2025. They finished at 4-8.
Mel Kiper Jr. recently ranked Sellers as the third-best quarterback available in the 2026 class despite his down year, behind only Dante Moore and Francisco Mendoza. If Moore decides to stay, Sellers jumps to No. 2. Maybe he will decide to turn pro this year to avoid the coveted draft class of 2027. An NFL team might more willing to draft him in the early rounds because this year’s class is considered weak.
Sellers might also decide to return to South Carolina to improve his stock for next year (or the year after) with a more consistent season in 2026 (and 2027). Shane Beamer just hired Kendall Briles as his new offensive coordinator which could be a big reason to come back. The offense should be much improved.
Or Sellers could transfer… His teammate posted a cryptic image on social media last week.
Dowell Loggains went skiing.
The Gamecocks did not make a bowl game so LaNorris Sellers is free to do as he pleases. He does not have to practice. He does not need to watch film. I am sure most of his classes are online.
With that in mind, Sellers recently took a vacation to the western side of North Carolina.
Appalachian Ski Mountain, Sugar Mountain and Beech Mountain are all within a few miles of each other. I do not know exactly which mountain Sellers visited earlier this week but he was in Boone.

This is where things get interesting.
Dowell Loggains was also on a ski mountain on the same day. It is unclear which mountain but it was also Boone.
Loggains is the head coach at App State. He previously served as the offensive coordinator at South Carolina in 2023 and 2024. Sellers had his best year in 2024.
Were they on the same mountain at the same time? I cannot say for certain. If so, was it planned?
I don’t think Sellers would transfer down but maybe he was seeking advice. It could also be nothing more than a coincidence. They might’ve had no idea they were both there. They might’ve met for a cup of cocoa in the lodge.
This kind of mystery is what makes college football so fun. What does it mean?!
