Las Vegas Raiders Make Regrettable Decision To Troll Patrick Mahomes At Training Camp

In 12 career games against the Las Vegas Raiders (née Oakland), Patrick Mahomes is 10-2 with 3,573 yards passing, 30 touchdowns and just four interceptions.

Needless to say, Mahomes doesn’t need any motivation to put a beatdown on his AFC West division rivals.

But the Raiders, as they’re wont to do, decided to give him some extra motivation anyway on Thursday when they brought out a Kermit the Frog doll at training camp dressed to resemble Mahomes.

Now, look … trash talk is a huge part of football. Saying Mahomes resembles (and sounds like) Kermit the Frog is pretty mild compared to what gets said on the field. And Mahomes probably already know this.

But why poke the bear?

Mahomes has proven time and time again that he’ll gladly go Sicko Mode in a game after even a perceived slight. The Raiders aren’t in any sort of position to try to make the best player in the league any better than he already is.

In February, Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce had this to say about three-time NFL MVP and Super Bowl champ:

“You got the Jordan rules,” hesaid on an episode of Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby’s “The Rush” podcast. “I’m calling it from now on as long as I’m here, the Patrick Mahomes rules.

“So you remember when Jordan was going through it with the Pistons, all those guys in the ‘80s? Before he became Michael Jordan, Air Jordan, the Pistons used to whoop his ass. Any time he came to the hole? Elbows, feeling him, love taps, we touched him, we’re in their head, mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually, I’m touching you.”

To their credit, Las Vegas kept Mahomes relatively quiet in a Week 16 victory over Kansas City last season. He went just 27-of-44 for 235 yards, one touchdown and one interception. The Raiders won 20-14.

But if you have a formula, why mess with it?

It sure seems like Las Vegas could rue the day they tried to have a little fun at Patrick Mahomes’ expense.
