The G1M Ultramarathon took place last weekend at the Bare Ranch in Texas. This race, better known as the ‘Last Man Standing Ultramarathon‘ from Bare Performance Nutrition is an event that only a select few individuals on earth have the stones to test their mettle in because you have to be wired differently to want to do this to your body.
This year’s Last Man Standing Ultramarathon saw history made on two fronts: there were 2 winners of the men’s division *and* they set a new course record.
The Bare Ranch in Texas is the home of Nick Bare who founded/owns Bare Performance Nutrition supplements. Competitors meet out there and run the 4.2 mile track, lap by lap, every hour on the hour, until there is only one competitor left on the track… Except this year as the 57th lap began some hellacious thunderstorms rolled in and the competitors were approached about their options.
Below, there is a video of the moment the two winners agreed to split the title but before we get to that, this viral TikTok explains the Last Man Standing Ultramarathon in a way that has you wondering why anyone would ever volunteer for this race:
@jakeheyen Welcome to the @Bare Performance Nutrition backyard ultramarathon (collab post with @Tatum Brandt) This is a last-man-standing-style race where racers run a 4.2 mile loop every hour, on the hour out at the founder’s ranch in Texas. And it was BRUTAL. 132 runners started, and the race was only called at loop 57 with two runners remaining due to intense storms, the incredible last men standing were @Kim Gottwald and @kendallpfx Everyone else got a horseshoe medal with “DNF” Every lap is a mental game. Can you go one more? That’s the whole point, the ethos of Nick Bare and BPN – it’s not always you have a brand tagline that is as deeply authentic as this one, and to host an event that so literally embodies the motto is pure genius. They livestreamed the race and at times had over 17k viewers tuning in just to see if the runners would go one more lap. Huge congrats to all the runners and to the INCREDIBLE crew and team at BPN running cameras, taking care of folks, and putting on what will go down in history as the race of a lifetime for many. Brands, take notes. This one was something special. #bpn #g1m #g1multra #ultramarathon #fitnessbrand #brandmarketing #brandstrategy #marketingstrategy #goonemore
132 runners begin. The last man standing is the winner. As people drop out, they receive a DNF horseshoe medal. This year’s winners ran 56 laps, or 235.2 miles, which is a new course record. Here are some photos shared by the race organizer at the moment the competitors crossed the 200-mile mark:
Here is the moment after lap 57 when the decision was made to call the race:
This year’s co-winners, Kendall Picado Fallas and Kim Gottwald, are complete aliens when it comes to physical fitness. Have you even ran 235.2 miles in the past year? Because they did it last weekend.
As an observer with no rooting interest, I do feel robbed a little that we didn’t have the chance to see if Kim or Kendall would win it outright and how far they would go. I’d make mention of the Kardashian names but if you scroll through the comments on the Instagram posts all the jokes have already been made, so there’s no need for that on my end.
If you are curious what running in the Last Man Standing Ultramarathon does to one’s body… I came across this video on TikTok showing competitor Jonny Davies who made it 102 miles trying to exit a vehicle and walk. It’s as if his legs forgot how to do their job:
@jdrunsfar I’ll be walking like this for a minute @Bare Performance Nutrition last man standing #running #run #runner
There are also clips floating around like this one of how destroyed the competitor’s feet are after competing in the Last Man Standing Ultramarathon. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy.
