We all knew something had to be on its way. Lonzo and LaMelo Ball had been having too much success this season for Lavar to continue having nothing to say. Well, Lavar broke his silence yesterday and oh boy did he have something to say.

Wow that’s a lot to unpack. First of all, Lavar Ball just called the GOAT “expired milk”. Maybe Michael Jordan will take that personally, unretire, and D up LaMelo just to prove a point.

The answer came in response to Ball being asked if his son ever asks Jordan for advice. The question fired Ball up as he shouted back “NEVER”.

Lavar asserted that there is no reason for LaMelo to consult Jordan for advice because “when was the last time he won a championship?” He cited how much the game has changed since Jordan last won a title as why LaMelo has nothing to learn from him.

That quote really makes me wonder, does LaMelo get advice from his father? If the game has changed so much since Jordan last won an NBA title in 1997 then surely it has changed even more since Lavar averaged 2.2 points per game at Washington State in the late 80s.

I somehow get the feeling that doesn’t disqualify dad as a source of advice.

For LaMelo’s part in all of this, he seems to be doing pretty well for himself regardless of where he’s getting his guidance. He is averaging 20 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 8.3 assists per game in just his second NBA season.

So maybe he doesn’t need much outside help, but not occasionally asking your team’s owner for advice when he’s the GOAT just seems like a waste of resources.
