Given their status relative to the history of the NBA, you could argue that the league had one of the worst PR days in its entire existence on Sunday after a trio of legends sparked massive viral moments with questionable behavior. And not just any legends, either: Kevin Durant, LeBron James, and Michael Jordan, who are probably three of the top four players of the last 35 years.
Starting with Kevin Durant, who was participating in the NBA’s All-Star Game over the weekend when a burner account that’s seemingly operated by the future Hall of Fame was uncovered alongside alleged messages sent by Durant that were disparaging of his teammates.
NBA legends Kevin Durant, LeBron James and Michael Jordan all sparked controversy during All-Star Weekend
Players such as Jabari Smith Jr, Alperen Sengun (two of his currents teammates), Devin Booker, Steph Curry, Russell Westbrook, and Ben Simmons were seemingly mentioned in the messages.

Then came LeBron James, who made some comments to the media about Israel that led to widespread backlash on social media. Beyond the geopolitical implications of his comments, LeBron was criticized for being so vocal about the Black Lives Matter movement a few years back but not displaying that same level of virtuosity for the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
“I’ve never been there, but if I have fans over there, then I hope you’ve been following my career. I hope I inspire people over there to not only be great in sports but to be better in general, in life. Hopefully, someday I can make it over there. I’ve heard nothing but great things,” LeBron said.

Finally, there’s Michael Jordan, who — in the midst of celebrating winning the Daytona 500 on video — was spotted on camera repeatedly grabbing the behind of a young boy that is clearly not his son, which came off as twice as bizarre given the recent deluge of news surrounding the Epstein files.

Combined with the scrutiny that the NBA has been receiving for both the quality of play in the All-Star game and the regular season, it could be argued that Sunday was one of the worst public relations days in the history of the league.
At the time of this writing: LeBron has not further addressed his stance on Israel, Durant has not acknowledged the existence of the burner account, and Jordan has yet to clarify exactly what he was thinking and doing in that uncomfortable moment.
