Earlier this week, four-star athlete Legend Bey out of North Forney High School in Texas signed his letter of intent to play for the Tennessee Volunteers at the next level.

However, Bey’s signature came with a twist. Bey, who On3 Sports ranks as the 191st overall player in the country, heavily implied that both his mother and brother forced him into signing for the Vols, while he wanted, instead, to sign for the Ohio State Buckeyes.

“It was a family decision,” Bey told On3’s Volquest Wednesday afternoon. “There was a lot going on. Still had that relationship with coach (Josh Heupel), and I just felt like coming back home.”

But now it appears there’s more to the story.

Legend Bey’s Mom May Have Forged Signature On Tennessee Paperwork

According to a report from Rivals, Bey’s mother travelled to Knoxville to meet with coaches and pick up paper work ahead of National Signing Day. However, her son was not with her.

“We were told that Legend Bey’s mother actually went to Knoxville the weekend before Signing Day to meet with the Tennessee coaches to pick up the paperwork, by herself, to pick up the paperwork that (either) he or mom signed on signing day. I have one source that says the signature (from) Legend made to Tennessee was forged, and that Legend still does not want to go to Knoxville.”

Recruiting is often messy. In fact, it’s almost always messy. But it’s even more messy when family steps in against the wishes of the players.

Here’s hoping Bey and his family can get on the same page at some point and he winds up playing somewhere where he truly wants to be.
