Female Kicker Becomes First Woman To Enter College Football Transfer Portal In Two Sports

Leilani Armenta Transfer Portal Female Woman College Football Kicker

Jackson State kicker Leilani Armenta officially entered the transfer portal in two different sports on Tuesday. She is the first female in college football history to do so.

It will be interesting to see whether her future program allows her to continue as a dual-sport athlete or if she decides to hang up the helmet and shoulder pads. As of right now, it is her intention to play both soccer and football at her next school!

Armenta, a true sophomore, became the first female to appear in an HBCU college football game on the Division-I level. She made her initial appearance with a singular kickoff in September of 2023.

She later became the first woman to score a point on the FCS level with three extra points in October of 2023. All three were good!

Armenta initially began her college football career as an emergency specialist. Jackson State was decimated by injuries so head coach T.C. Taylor called over to the women’s soccer team, which was also in season at the time. He needed depth at the kicker position and California-native immediately jumped at the opportunity to join the Tigers on the gridiron.

One thing led to another and Leilani Armenta made history. She was not the first female kicker to attempt (and make) an extra point in a Division-I game, as that title goes to former Vanderbilt goalie Sarah Fuller, but she was the first to have her role stick beyond just one game or one year.

Armenta made four extra points during her two years at Jackson State. The 5-foot-7 kicker will hope to add to that total at a new school. Her entry into the transfer portal lists her as a two-sport athlete in both football and in soccer. It is unclear as to whether she will be presented with the chance to keep kicking.

Regardless of how things shake out in coming weeks, Leilani Armenta’s career is cemented as one of the all-time greats. Although her stats may not jump out off of the page, her story more than makes up for the lack of numbers! It would be pretty cool if she got the opportunity to write the next chapter!
