Former Clemson wide receiver Marquise Henderson left the program under mysterious circumstances earlier this offseason. His departure was both unexpected and unexplained.
Details on a locker room drama are now surfacing, providing insights to his split with the Tigers. He reportedly lashed out against teammates for holding him accountable.
Henderson signed with the program as a four-star prospect from South Carolina. He was rated by 247 Sports as the 205th-best player in the nation, regardless of position, in the 2025 recruiting class.
Now, he’ll leave the school just five months after enrolling. He will never see the field with Clemson.
Reports of his exit circulated on June 19th. Reasoning behind the decision was largely unknown.

The transfer decision made sense in many ways. He’d likely get an opportunity to showcase his skillset in a major role with hopes of returning to the Power 4 level in the future.
Henderson committed to Liberty on June 25th. The Flames have now pulled that offer.
Details are emerging on a locker room altercation.
Reasoning behind his departure from Clemson surfaced in mid-July, about three weeks after his Liberty commitment. They paint a negative picture with Henderson fitting the role of a bad teammate.
More from Chapel Fowler of The State:
Marquise Henderson was allegedly involved in some sort of verbal altercation in the locker room three days before he was dismissed from the team, records show
The severity of that altercation varied based on eyewitness accounts, but one person who was identified in the report as a student alleged that Henderson threatened to harm multiple teammates and showed them a picture of a gun during the incident…
This followed an argument that stemmed from one of those teammate calling out Henderson for missing team workouts, the report says.
The report states that Henderson was being held accountable by teammates for missing a workout. He responded by threatening them with a photo of a weapon.
The receiver had been excited to play for the Tigers despite admitting to growing up a fan of rival South Carolina. “I grew up a South Carolina fan, but when you go into seeing the colleges and stuff, Clemson is a great place to be,” he said in an interview before arriving to the university.
“Everything is all about family. All about being the best person you can be.” Unfortunately, Henderson wasn’t able to stay on track.
Fowler says the receiver was dropped by Clemson three days after the incident. His future is now unclear with the 2025 college football season just six weeks away.
