A LIV Golf versus PGA Tour matchup is in the works and set to be held in Las Vegas this December with four major champions facing off in an event similar to ‘The Match’ which has been held on TNT in recent years.
The news was first shared by Eamon Lynch at Golfweek who reached out to Rory McIlroy to receive confirmation. Rors responded via text, saying “I’m thrilled to partner with Scottie in what promises to be an exciting duel against Bryson and Brooks in Vegas this December.”
McIlroy added “This isn’t just a contest between some of golf’s major champions; it’s an event designed to energize the fans. We’re all here to put on a great show and contribute to a goodwill event that brings the best together again.”
This LIV Golf vs PGA Tour matchup is reportedly set to be held in mid-December and will pit Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka, two of the biggest LIV Golf stars and multi-major championship winners, against Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler.
Scottie is coming off one of the best seasons in professional golf history. It’s the first time in the modern era of golf that a season can be reasonably compared to Tiger Woods in his prime. With this new LIV Golf vs PGA Tour version of ‘The Match’ just three months away, Scottie will presumably still be in good form.

A representative for Scheffler and Koepka, Blake Smith, told Golfweek “Brooks and Scottie are very excited to be a part of this unique event and look forward to sharing more soon.”
From a fan perspective, this will be great. It represents some sort of ‘coming together’ or ‘healing’ of golf. But form a business perspective, there certainly appears to be more upside here for the LIV Golf members as the PGA Tour is still king when it comes to TV ratings.
This matchup in Las Vegas is reportedly being produced by the same team behind The Match and at this time the PGA Tour declined to provide any comment on the matchup.
Three months is a long way away but at this point in time I have to think the smart money will be on Scottie and Rory. Brooks is one of my favorite golfers and Bryson has been in incredible form this year but Scottie has been playing on a whole new level.
