Former New England Patriots cornerback and 2-time Super Bowl winner Logan Ryan joined Colin Cowherd this week and the two discussed Bill Belichick, 2016, and a double standard that Ryan believes lost the locker room.

As Logan Ryan tells it, and as became a subplot in The Dynasty on Apple, Belichick‘s approach to politics didn’t sit right with many of the players on the team. And while it’s easy to point fingers at who Belichick was supporting that led to blowback the reality of what’s being alleged isn’t that it was support for one candidate or the other, but rather that Belichick was able to make public comments on his political affiliations while the players were barred from doing so.

That double standard is at the heart of what Logan Ryan is talking about here. But with that said, it’s kind of hard to allege someone ‘lost the locker room’ in a season when the team won the Super Bowl, isn’t it?

In the clip, Logan Ryan saysI see kind of the turn of the political statements coming out from Bill, supporting Trump and whatnot, and he said, ‘we’re not going to talk about anybody’s own personal beliefs…. I saw all that kind of (shake) the locker room, like, ‘Hey we don’t talk about those things, why are you talking about those things?

Logan Ryan won two Super Bowls with the New England Patriots before moving on to other teams. And the political climate has certainly changed during his NFL career.

Logan acknowledged that, saying “times have changed, people want to talk about political views. Political views got into football. People want to do commercials. It’s OK to have your cellphone in a meeting. These things, employees in a workplace demand change, and I think as a boss you’ve got to understand that.”

If the company’s rule is “we don’t talk about political views” that applies to everyone. It’s as simple as that. Belichick speaking about it while players would’ve been barred clearly would have been a point of contention amongst some.

But Logan Ryan’s correct in that times have changed and politics is woven into every aspect of life now. That’s something Belichick certainly understands. He’s a brilliant man. It just may be something he prefers to not acknowledge.
