The Los Angeles Rams are one of the most well-run organizations in the NFL. Team president Kevin Demoff and general manager Les Snead are regularly looking to make additions in free agency and be aggressive to remain competitive. It led them to a Super Bowl 56 victory and despite a difficult cap situation, they’re back to being contenders again.
But last year’s team had holes. The Rams allowed 4.6 yards per carry, which ranked just 25th in the league. The issue reared its head in the NFC Divisional Round against the Philadelphia Eagles where Saquon Barkley rushed for 205 yards and two touchdowns in a 28-22 victory. Recently, actress Brenda Song (who is a diehard Rams fan) called out the organization for its problems against the run.
“Let me tell you, (Rams defensive coordinator) Chris Shula, I like you a lot. I like what you’ve done with our front four. But my issue is: We don’t have a run-stopper. We don’t use our middle linebackers in the middle. We can’t stop the run,”” she said during an appearanced on Mythical Kitchen, began her rant.
Los Angeles Rams Respond To Brenda Song Critique By Signing Huge Defensive Tackle
Song’s rant brought smiles to the faces of football fans everywhere who were amused to learn the former Suite Life of Zack and Cody and current wife to MacAulay Culkin was diehard fan. But as it turns out, the Rams heard Song’s message loud and clear.
On Monday, Los Angeles snatched run-stuffing defensive tackle Poona Ford away from the crosstown rival Chargers on a three-year, $30 million deal. Ford, who is listed at 5-foot-11 and 310 pounds, had a Pro Football Focus grade of 85.1 in 2024,which ranked fifth out of 219 defensive tackles. Perhaps more importantly, his run defense grade of 78.8 was seventh among all defensive tackles.
Los Angeles saw a glaring weakness and addressed it and in an aggressive, sensible way. And Rams fans might well have Brenda Song to thank for it.
