Crazy Ending To Louisiana High School Football State Championship Game Turns Kicker From Goat To Hero In Matter Of Moments

For a brief moment on Friday night, St. Charles Catholic senior Tyler Milloto looked as if he was going to have one of the worst nights of his young life. Then, in a moment, everything changed.

Milloto is a kicker for the Comets, who squared off with Archbishop Shaw in the Louisiana Division II Select High School Football championship. With 35 seconds remaining, St. Charles scored a touchdown to pull within one of the Eagles. All Milloto had to do was kick an extra point to tie the game.

However, an onrushing blocker seemed to throw off Milloto’s concentration, causing him to pull the kick wide of the left upright, seemingly losing the game for his team.

But all was not lost…

Early Celebration Flips Louisiana High School Football Championship On Its Head

After recovering an onside kick and with just two timeouts remaining, all Archbishop Shaw needed to do was kneel the game out. However, after the first kneel down, a Shaw player celebrated early, removing his helmet and drawing a 15-yard penalty.

That meant the clock stopped without St. Charles needed to either of its timeouts. Shaw then took two knees, and the Comets used both of their remaining timeouts to stop the clock.

When the Eagles lined up to punt with 20 seconds remaining, St. Charles was able to block it.

That gave the Comets the ball in field goal range and gave Milotto a shot at redemption. This time, he didn’t miss, drilling a 44-yard field goal as time expired to give his team an improbably 23-21 victory.

And just like that, Milotto went from the kid who missed an extra point to lose a state championship game to the guy who nailed a 44-yard field goal to win it, all within 30 seconds of game time.

Talk about a day that he will never forget.
