On Tuesday, Louisiana Tech football coach Sonny Cumbie is set to lead his team into action against Coastal Carolina in the 2025 Independence Bowl.

But on Saturday, just three days before the game, Cumbie found himself lying on the floor being tased by military officials.

In fact, Cumbie is one of just several representatives for the Bulldogs who found themselves in a compromising position.

Several Coaches And Players Tased Before Shreveport Bowl

The 2025 edition of the Independence Bowl in Shreveport, Louisiana, will be the 49th edition of the game, which has run since 1976.

Not far from Shreveport is Barksdale Air Force Base, which hosted players from both teams on Saturday for a tour and to experience a little bit of the military lifestyle.

As part of the experience, players and coaches got the chance, if they so chose, to experience what it felt like to be hit with a taser.

Cumbie was among those volunteers.

Not only did Cumbie agree to be tased, but he took it like an absolute champ. That’s a stark contrast to players for Coastal Carolina, who seemed to enjoy the experience far less.

Players for both teams also got the opportunity to try on full military gear, work with military canines (including getting bitten by one), and learn about several of the planes and weapons that members of the air force use.

All in all, it was a pretty cool-looking experience. Let’s just hope Cumbie is fully recovered by the time he needs to coach a football game on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs went 7-5 in their fourth season under Cumbie. While Coastal Carolina went 6-6 in its third season under Tim Beck, who has since left the team to become the offensive coordinator for new head coach Brian Hartline at South Florida.
