Louisville and Auburn had very different experiences during the first round of March Madness. The Cardinals were on the wrong end of a start-to-finish blowout while the Tigers cruised into the Round of 32 after an early scare from the No. 16 seed.

Both results made for a terrible Thursday afternoon for one overly boisterous middle-aged man in Lexington. He looks awfully silly.

This hilarious saga got underway around 12:15 p.m. ET at Rupp Arena when Louisville played its college basketball against Creighton in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Fifth-year senior Steven Ashworth scored 22 points to lead the 9-seed Bluejays to a dominant 14-point win over the 8-seed Cardinals. The game was ugly from the opening tip. At no point did it seem like the ACC opponent was going to get back into the game and, sure enough, it didn’t.

Fans of the home-state team were furious. One of them even thew a water bottle onto the court in solidarity with head coach Pat Kelsey, who picked up a technical foul for exploding on an official.

Louisville fans got more and more angry as the score got more and more out of hand. And then Auburn arrived. The Tigers were up next on the same court. They were greeted by a hostile crowd.

By hostile crowd, I mean one butthurt Cardinals fan who repeatedly chirped at the No. 1 overall seed from the stands. He cracked jokes about the loss to Yale last season and called them a “first round disappointment.”

Remember, he did all that while his team was losing by double digits. YIKES! He looked like an idiot.

If that was not embarrassing enough, Auburn went on to defeat Alabama State by 20. The Louisville fan watched his team lose by 14 and then saw the team that he tried to mock win by an even larger margin.

I am a big fan of heckling. I think it is part of what makes college sports so much fun— so long as it does not go too far. In this specific instance, the attempted chirp was well within the lines of respect. It just happened to be the dumbest thing you will hear today. Tough day for that guy.
