LSU is bending over backwards for Lane Kiffin.

On Sunday, the school announced that it had successfully poached Kiffin away from Ole Miss, while the Rebels are in contention for the College Football Playoff.

Kiffin spoke about his decision to jump ship to LSU during an interview with ESPN’s Marty Smith,

“There was something; this was really hard; my heart was here,” Kiffin said. “But I talked to some mentors- Coach (Pete) Carroll, Coach (Nick) Saban. Especially when Coach Carroll said, ‘Your dad would tell you to go, man. Take the shot. Take the shot. You’ve accomplished a lot here.’ I always hated how we only gave one year to Tennessee and left. I really hated that feeling of that. Even though it was an exciting year. I think that we gave a lot to this program and to this city. Some of the most historic wins in the stadium we’ve ever had, and best regular season in the history of the school. I feel proud of that part.”

On Monday, it was revealed that LSU would be paying Kiffin $91 million over 7 years with extra incentives if he wins a national championship for the school.

LSU signed head coach Lane Kiffin to a seven-year, $91 million deal, according to a copy of his term sheet obtained Monday morning by The Advocate through a public records request.
Kiffin will earn $13 million per year, making him one of the highest-paid coaches in college football.

If Kiffin wins a national title, his annual compensation would automatically increase to make him the highest-paid coach in the country.

The most surprising aspect of Kiffin’s contract is that LSU will pay him his Ole Miss college football playoff bonus if the Rebels win the playoffs.

Even though he left Ole Miss before the College Football Playoff, Kiffin can continue to earn incentives through its postseason run. LSU agreed to pay him what he “would have been entitled to receive” if he had stayed at Ole Miss during the CFP, including $150,000 if the Rebels play in the first round as expected or up to $1 million if they win the national championship.
