While rising Swedish star Ludvig Aberg leads the U.S. Open at Pinehurst entering the weekend, his girlfriend Olivia Peet is stealing the show.

Aberg, 24, went to college at Texas Tech University and is already ranked No. 6 in the world despite less than two full seasons on the PGA Tour. He already has four professional wins and is coming off an impressive second-place finish at The Masters.

Aberg shot rounds of 66 and 69 at the challenging Pinehurst No. 2 course to take a 1-shot lead at 5-under into the weekend over Bryson Dechambeau, Patrick Cantlay and Belgian Thomas Detry.

And yet for all his incredible play, he’s seemingly getting overshadowed by Peet.

So, who in the world is Olivia Peet? We’re glad you asked.

Peet and Aberg have been together for multiple years after they attended Texas Tech together. She, like Aberg, was an athlete who competed on the tennis team. And she, like Aberg, is not from the United States.

Peet is from England and her father, Chris, was a professional tennis player.

According to her Texas Tech athlete bio, Peet planned to pursue a professional tennis career after graduation. But her career college singles record of 73-57 suggests maybe another option may be in line.

Though as long as she stays with Aberg, she can probably do whatever it is she wants.

The young start sits sixth on the 2024 PGA money list at just over $7 million, and he already turned down a huge offer from the LIV Golf series.

Why? Aberg says it’s all about competition.

“I want to play against the best, because I am a competitive person and like to compete against the best players,” he said. “Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like that at the moment, it’s a bit more fragmented.
“When I look at the PGA Tour and the competitions there, there is so much history around all the competitions. And that’s what I like, that’s what I go for. But then you have to respect everyone’s decisions.”
