Luka Doncic arrived in Los Angeles shortly after the wildfires that swept across the region in January were finally extinguished following a weeks-long battle. He hasn’t been in the area for long, but he’s already doing what he can to make an impact with a massive donation to assist in the recovery efforts.
It’s been a little over a week since the NBA was rocked by the blockbuster trade that saw the Mavericks willingly part ways with Luka Doncic in a transaction that led to the Lakers acquiring the superstar while sending Anthony Davis back to Dallas.
All signs point to the Lakers emerging as the winner of that seemingly lopsided transaction; Davis did kick off his tenure with the Mavs with a bang with a monster first half against the Rockets on Saturday, but it was marred by the adductor strain that took him out of the game and could keep him sidelined up for a month based on the diagnosis he received.
Doncic was officially welcomed to Los Angeles last Tuesday but has spent the three games the Lakers have played since his arrival on the bench while gearing up for a debut that will see him don the purple and gold jersey for the first time when his new team hosts the Jazz on Monday night.
The soon-to-be 26-year-old superstar touched down in L.A. shortly after firefighters officially extinguished the last of the wildfires that broke out in Los Angeles County toward the start of January before consuming more than 40,000 acres while destroying thousands of homes and buildings and claiming the lives of at least 29 people.
Doncic hasn’t been in the area for very long, but he’s wasted no time doing what he can to help the people who were impacted by the blazes bounce back.
On Monday, he released a statement through the charitable foundation he oversees pledging $500,000 to aid with “immediate recovery efforts” while also promising to assist with the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the “courts, playgrounds, and fields” that were impacted by the fires.
