32-Year-Old Punter Is An Absolute Weapon In The Classroom During Sixth Season Of College Football

Luke Larsen 32-Year-Old College Football Punter Transfer Portal
East Carolina Athletics

Luke Larsen recently entered the transfer portal as a 32-year-old. He was born on July 18, 1992 and will be the oldest player in college football as a sixth-year senior in 2025.

His academic career is just as impressive as his career as an athlete!

Larsen is part of the Aussie wave of specialists that continue to take over college football. The Pirates recruited him to Greenville as a 28-year-old freshman in 2020. He punted 174 times for 7,099 yards in five seasons at ECU, which ranks fourth in program history.

Although Larsen has an opportunity to break a school record next season, his decision to enter the transfer portal as a grad transfer will not allow him to do so. The entry became official earlier this week.

Before we go any further, lets first break down Luke Larsen’s six years of eligibility.

  • 2020 — pandemic, didn’t count
  • 2021 — redshirt, didn’t count
  • 2022 — first year of eligibility at ECU
  • 2023 — second year of eligibility at ECU
  • 2024 — third year of eligibility at ECU
  • 2025 — fourth year of eligibility at ??

The optics of a six-year athletic career does not typically indicate a successful academic career. Most college football players who play six seasons leave school with only one undergraduate degree. Some get a Master’s if they are overly ambitious.

Larsen is the exception to that trend. He earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial distribution and logistics and a graduate degree in just five years. Do not get it twisted!

It is unclear whether Luke Larsen plans to go after a third degree during the upcoming year as a 32-year-old college student or if he is going to cruise his way through “class” while getting paid through NIL. Either way, he is just as much of an academic as he is a special teams weapon!
