Mac Jones looks like an entirely different person than he was just a few short months ago. The Jacksonville Jaguars’ quarterback is embracing the goofy backup role and seems to be so much happier than he was with the New England Patriots.
His change of scenery comes with a change in attitude!
Jones had a rough tenure with the organization that picked him No. 15 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. He reportedly butt heads with the coaching staff on multiple occasions, especially Bill Belichick, and his attitude allegedly rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.
In the end, New England decided to ship him off to Jacksonville. The Patriots essentially traded Jones and his noodle arm for Joe Milton and his bazooka. They would rather have a young, project quarterback serve as their backup than an aging signal-caller who has consistently struggled. It also seemed like both sides were glad to part ways.
A new video from Florida would appear to echo that sentiment. Jones looks to be enjoying himself!
Trevor Lawrence is obviously the guy for the Jaguars. Mac Jones will be the backup.
As such, the pressure is largely off. There is no worry about being benched. Belichick isn’t there to chew him out. Bailey Zappe isn’t breathing down his neck. The fanbase in Jacksonville is glad to have him, especially as a hometown kid- unlike those in the Northeast. They were pushing him out the door!
Admittedly, I don’t know if New England was keeping this side of Jones off of social media, or if he truly was a completely different person while with the organization. We saw a little bit of his personality at Alabama. He was always having a good time. Upon arrival to the NFL, his demeanor immediately became stoic. Was that due to the culture of the Patriots under Belichick? Who am I to say…
Either way, Jones is loose down in the Sunshine State!
