Given how much money he makes per year at ESPN, how often he appears on national television, and all of the celebrity friends and acquaintances he has, it’s perhaps not shocking that Stephen A. Smith has let the fame get to his head over the years.

What he pulled during the NBA Finals, however, brought things to a whole new level, as a video posted to social media saw Stephen A., wearing a flamboyant pink suit, walking into Game 4 of the NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks looking as if he thought he was starting for Dallas at small forward.

On the Wednesday episode of First Take, which sees Chris Russo take the chair opposite Smith every week, “Mad Dog” had some fun with SAS’s viral moment, calling it stupid and saying it’s the dumbest thing he’s ever seen.

Despite how cool Stephen A. fancies himself as being, there’s undeniably an element of his persona that’s a character, as the seemingly real version of SAS seemed embarrassed by the clip has he immediately walked out of frame as soon as he realized where Mad Dog was going.

“This is ridiculous. Explain. How about him walking into Game 4 with the Celtics in Dallas. Stephen, Steve, Steve… this is stupid,” Mad Dog says.

“You got a guy behind you, you got the cameras — ou think you’re going to score 36 this night with the sunglasses on? I mean this is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen in my life. How about going to a ballgame with a t-shirt on and a pair of shorts, sitting in the upper deck, and having a beer with the fellas? Why are you doing this?! Look at this! This is laughable! We know you’re a star, Steve. You don’t have to show off.”

Luckily for NBA fans, they weren’t subjected to SAS’s vanity during the NBA Finals much longer as the Boston Celtics were able to close out the Dallas Maverick in Game 5 on Monday night to win the franchise’s league-leading 18th NBA title.
