FedEx field is notorious for its poor field conditions. The home of the Washington Football Team has been heavily criticized since it first opened in 1997.

It has also played a role in quite a few notable injuries. Robert Griffin III, Alex Smith and Adrian Peterson, among others, have suffered major leg injuries on the field. In each instance, the injury either caused or factored into the incidents.

Back in 2017, former WFT kicker Kai Forbath called the field “dirt” that “they spray paint green.” It has been such a problem that new head coach Ron Rivera has made it a point to improve the playing surface.

The new field and grass will be ready before the first home game this fall.

Madden takes a dig.

Washington’s field has been the butt of many jokes. The Madden NFL video game franchise is the most recent group to take a shot at FedEx Field.

Each year, the game is updated to include new features so that its players feel like they are buying a newer version for more than updated rosters. This year, Madden NFL 22 revealed the “home-field advantage M-factor.”

During home games, when the home team is playing well, its opponents will be tasked with an added challenge. Each challenge is different for each stadium.

Whether it was intentional or not, the FedEx Field advantage threw shade directly at the WFT. Washington’s home-field advantage is called “unstable ground.”

The advantage, which is eerily accurate, means that WFT opponents will struggle to change directions when playing at FedEx.

Social media immediately reacted to the feature. While some people pointed negatively at the WFT’s home-field advantage, former players were quick to speak to its truth.

Forme WFT running back Chris Thompson called it “very much facts.”

As FedEx Field undergoes an overhaul, surely the team hopes that the reputation will change.
