The New York Giants 2024/25 season is essentially over as soon as it started, as the Brian Daboll-led G-Men looked like a contender for the #1 overall pick in next year’s NFL Draft during their 28-6 home loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
Like so many other teams in the NFL, the Giants’ issue is their quarterback: Daniel Jones. What makes the Giants’ particular circumstance so bad, though, is that they decided to pay Jones despite him never truly proving he was worth it.
Since handing him a four-year, $160 million contract last year, Jones has actually thrown more touchdowns to other teams (pick sixes, with three) than to his own team (two). Against the Vikings, Jones completed 22 of 42 passes for 186 yards and two interceptions.
It certainly hasn’t taken long for the reality of the Giants’ situation to hit rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers, as the #6 overall pick in this season’s draft cut a frustrated figure after the game when speaking to the media.
“I’m getting out on my routes and just trying to make a play, trying to find a better throw for him to make. I was just doing my job, that’s all I can do,” Nabers said of the Giants’ passing attack with Jones under center.
In his NFL debut, the former LSU star led the Giants in receiving as he caught five passes for 66 yards.
