The Toronto Blue Jays booked a ticket to the World Series with a Game 7 win over the Seattle Mariners. Outfielder George Springer played a massive role in that advancement.

Springer launched a go-ahead three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning. It proved to be the difference in a 4-3 victory.

That moment represented one of instant karma for the Mariners‘ fanbase. The baseball gods repaid them for their nasty behavior in Game 5.

The Mariners do not like George Springer.

This dates back to his time with the division rival Houston Astros. Springer was part of a team enthralled in controversy. A cheating scandal marred a championship season.

In 2019, it was discovered that the club used cameras to illegally swipe opposing signals. Those accusations involved the ’17 and ’18 campaigns.

Houston won the World Series in 2017 before losing in the ALCS the following year. As a result of the cheating the team was fined, lost draft picks, and saw its manager suspended.

Springer recorded what had been career highs in home runs and runs batted in during the championship season. He left the Astros to join the Blue Jays in 2021.

The outfielder has shined in Toronto this year.

He’s hitting a personal-best .309 to go along with 32 dingers. He’s made his presence felt this postseason with four home runs through 11 games.

Springer faced off against his old NL West rival in the ALCS. He was not welcomed warmly.

Mariners fans booed the former Astro at every turn, which has been the norm even in the regular season. They overstepped, however, in Game 5 of the series.

Seattle booed after a hit by pitch.

George Springer went down in pain after being hit in the leg by a Bryan Woo delivery. The home crowd reacted as he got back to his feet.

Springer’s dad commented on that fan response after the fact.

“I’ll be completely honest about that: That was the most despicable fan behavior I have ever witnessed. Anywhere,” he said.

“I have never seen a fan base boo a player who was injured. Rejoice in their injury.”

Seattle received a hefty dose of karma for that reaction on Monday. Springer played spoiler to keep the Mariners from their first ever World Series appearance.

Seattle will not win a championship this season. It remains the league’s only franchise yet to play in a World Series.

Toronto, meanwhile, will look to keep its spotless World Series mark alive after overcoming a 2-0 ALCS deficit. George Springer will have an opportunity to win ring No. 2.
