The Marshall Thundering Herd took down the Old Dominion Monarchs on Saturday in exciting college football action. The game saw everything as the two teams traded blows up until the final whistle.
A meddling ball boy on the Old Dominion side got in on the action after the game concluded. It led to an ugly postgame scuffle as Marshall tried to leave the field.
The matchup was highly competitive as the Sun Belt Conference rivals went back and forth across 60 minutes of action. Marshall jumped out to a 17-7 first half lead before watching the Monarchs storm back to take the lead ahead of the fourth quarter. A late score by Ethan Payne eventually broke a 35-35 tie, giving the Thundering Herd a huge win.
With the victory, Marshall retained sole possession of first place in the league standings. The Monarchs were salty after watching their upset bid fall short.
As the Herd exited the field, a ball boy stepped in the way of Marhsall players and tried to pry a football from the hands of the opposition. It resulted in a postgame skirmish that ended with the ball boy being tossed to the ground!

The Marshall players weren’t ready to give that game ball up! Another video shows the leadup to the altercation. The ball boy, rightfully or wrongfully, tried to get what he believed was his.

Interestingly enough, it’s not the first interaction we’ve seen involving a ball boy and college football players. During a game between Colorado and Texas Tech earlier in the year, Shedeur Sanders and brother, Bucky, confronted a sideline worker who tried to swipe a ball from the hands of Shilo Sanders after a touchdown. This incident was very similar.
The ball boy’s job is to corral the footballs after plays on the field. In each case, however, the staffers might’ve overstepped in their forceful attempts to strip the ball from opposing players. That doesn’t necessarily condone the reactions. We’ll see if apologies are given following this latest spat.
