Percy Miller just wrapped up his first season as President of Basketball Operations at the University of New Orleans. He could already be looking to take the next step professionally.
‘Master P,’ as he’s best known, is reportedly interested in the Arizona State head coaching job. If hired, he’d have immediate access to a pair of rival roster members.
Master P is interested in the Arizona State men’s basketball coaching gig, per sources.

Percy Miller knows ball.
The rapper is best known for his impacts in the entertainment industry. His history with the sport of basketball is notable, too.
Miller earned a scholarship to play at Houston, though he dropped out months into his first year on campus. He later played pro ball, including a pair of training camp stints with the Hornets and Raptors.
He can really shoot it!
“I played basketball before I sold 100 million records.”

Obviously, Miller did more than fine in the career path taken. With that said, basketball never left his mind.
He was hired by New Orleans last offseason in an operations role. He helped spark a major turnaround. The Privateers were 4-27 last season and enthralled in a college basketball gambling scandal.
They went 15-18 this year with a 12-10 record in conference play after hiring Master P.
Miller had a hand in recruiting and roster management. He also brought with him experience from the AAU circuit.
Master P has previously coached stars like DeMar DeRozan and Lance Stephenson. He’s also coached family members, a few of which are still playing college ball.
Could Master P help Arizona State?
Sporting News recently wrote on Miller’s potential landing spots should he leave New Orleans. One was as either a head coach or GM with the Sun Devils.
Arizona State parted ways with coach Bobby Hurley after his contract expired this spring. It will hire a replacement in the offseason.
The landscape in Tempe needed a change in the worst way. Bobby Hurley openly admitted to losing the locker room, and it was evident he wasn’t going to be receiving a contract extension past this season. Miller knows how to relate with this generation and will be able to hit the ground running with ease. The problems can’t solely be on Hurley. This is a culture change that needs to happen for the Sun Devils to be successful. Thus, why Miller as a front office candidate makes sense as well.

If hired, Miller would need to immediately attack the recruiting trail. That could mean raiding rival rosters through the transfer portal.
He’d have two great places to start.
Mercy Miller is Percy Miller’s son. He is a guard at the University of Houston. The former four-star recruit has seen an uptick in playing time as a sophomore.
In 2025-26, he averaged 11.3 minutes per game as a bench player. He scored a season-high 15 points in a non-conference win over New Orleans, and 13 in his most recent performance vs. top-ranked Arizona.
Master P’s nephew is also a Big 12 basketball player. Vyctorius Miller is a double-digit scorer for the Oklahoma State Cowboys. He, too, is a former four-star high school prospect.
Those additions might not make the Sun Devils a title contender, but they’d be a good start. Of course, that potential domino effect is only possible if Miller is hired.
Arizona State would provide Master P with a notable NIL budget. He’d likely be able to attract talent and attention with his name, alone.
The program will need to determine if the risk is worth the reward. He has no experience leading a P4 college basketball team.
That inexperience can be overlooked with success in other areas. Master P is interested in the job. Are the Sun Devils interested in him?
