It’s been a difficult year thus far for Ben Affleck, as the writer, director, and actor has been going through a publicly drawn-out divorce from wife Jennifer Lopez, whom he married in July 2022.

While the divorce has yet to become official, all signs indicate that the A-list couple is headed in that direction as they’ve been rarely seen together this summer and each made significant real estate moves: Ben Affleck purchased a new mansion in Los Angeles while Jenniffer Lopez sold her Manhattan penthouse.

Sources have said that his last two years of marriage to Lopez have been a “fever dream” that Affleck is now waking up out of. And while Affleck’s best buddy and creative partner Matt Damon has always been in his corner, even he recently expressed exacerbation over how Affleck has had to live his life over the last quarter century under the media’s microscope.

“I wasn’t an exciting story; the guy who’s married, it’s boring! Scandal and sex, that’s what people would read magazines for. I’ve been really lucky,” Damon told the Radio Times Podcast while promoting his new film The Instigators.

“Especially when I look at his brother, Ben. We’ve had parallel careers in a lot of ways, but I can’t imagine living under that scrutiny for 25 years.”

Damon has been promoting his new film The Instigators, which he stars in alongside Ben’s Oscar-winning brother Casey Affleck and was directed by Doug Liman, the filmmaker behind The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow, and the recent Road House reboot. The Instigators is now streaming on AppleTV+.

In addition to starring in The Instigators, Damon also has a movie that he produced alongside Affleck set to debut at the Toronto International Film Festival next month: Unstoppable, a biopic about NCAA champion one-legged wrestler Anthony Robles. Unstoppable stars Jennifer Lopez as Robles’ mother.
